In dialogue with Heidi Honeycut about women making horror movies

24 October 2024 in LAB 111, during the fantastic Imagine Film Festival, I had a conversation with Heidi Honeycut, author of the book I Spit on Your Celluloid (2024), about women making horror movies. A few years ago I published New Blood in Contemporary Cinema (2020), about the same topic. Our approaches are different but we share our passion for film, female directors and the horror genre. Moreover one cannot write and talk enough about the perspective of creating and creative women. Their voices may be heard louder, but they are equally forgotten and silenced very easily. We showed some short excerpt from the work of female directors present at the festival: Barlebas (Malu Janssen, 2024), Fem(me) (Nina Noel Raaijmakers, 2024) and Animale (Emma Benestan, 2023). They formed the occasion to talk about female desire, body horror, atmospheric eeriness, abuse, connection to animal spirits, witchcraft, the film industry, history (of feminism) and many more things. The audience was very engaged and time too short. The pictures below are from Barlebas and Animale.
